Day 8: Paris

Bonjour!

Today we had our first hearty bit of "touring" with the group. We took the Metro to Montmartre and took in an interesting walk, hearing lots about Van Gogh and Picasso (who worked in this neighborhood for a chunk of their careers) and then at the top, saw the gorgeous church on the hill, Sacre Coeur. It is a sight! Not to mention, the views of Paris are fantastic from there as well!

After, we grabbed a crepe for lunch and then headed to the Orsay Museum, where we cut to the chase (Amy, not being exactly a museum gal, voted for the quick'n'dirty tour). We hit the top floor and saw loads of Van Gogh, Cezanne and others in that camp. It was good fun and ended with us enjoying a few Rodin sculptures as an appetizer for our next stop, the Rodin Museum. After a refueling snack, we looked at the amazing sculpture there - Amy liked it a lot, which was excellent since it's one of my favorite museums of all time. Since we were close by, we popped in and had a look at Napolean's Tomb. We peeked, checked that box and off we went...

From there, we strolled through a few neighborhoods and found dinner near our hotel (after a search for a different spot which we gave up on in the end). There was a good bit of 'strenuous' (by the tour's standard) walking today, so we were both pooped out by bedtime but it was a good day, and the tour thing seems ok really!

Photos: Sacre Coeur; The Orsay and a favorite Van Gogh painting; The Kiss & The Gates of Hell, two of Rodin's most famous works (above, as well, is of course The Thinker, his most known work); last, good'ole Napoleon's resting place.
