a blog with relatively few words, particularly for a girl who speaks many...

there's always something more...

so i've been wanting a different name for my blog for a long time - when i created it, it was a whim, and i couldn't think quickly of the perfect title - so i opted for an unusual tidbit about myself. i've always just loved thursdays for a variety of reasons, so i went with "i heart thursdays."

however, two things yesterday led me to the new name. first, i showed up to work to find someone had jumped off of the aurora bridge. i saw them putting him in the ambulance - this is the third time i've had an experience with a jumper. one i saw hit the water, one i saw pacing/contemplating jumping and i called 911 - the police got to him before he jumped (phew) - and then today, where i saw him on the gurney after they pulled him out of the lake...

this kind of thing ruins your day, and also makes you think all of the standard thoughts one has when suicides happen, which for me includes "there's always something more for you in the world - if only you could've moved through this rough time..."

last night, i watched a film i really loved, A Home at the End of the World - one of those movies that just make you feel a lot of feelings: good, bad, painful, fun, happy, loving, sad, nostalgic. One line in the film was "don't worry man, there's always more" - it came at a time when one of the characters (a 9-yr-old) was sad to have to leave a party on his mother's orders, and his older brother said this to him to help him accept the decision. my interpretation is that he wanted him to know that it's ok to let go of things, people, places, and moments - because you'll get up tomorrow to find something else that will fulfill you or help you to grow in some way. the only thing constant is change...

the subtitle, btw, is 1) my new motto which i'm trying to live a little better by and 2) rough copy of a similar sentiment seen as a bumper sticker on some hippie's old green diesel volvo this week.

hence, my new title - i knew it would just hit me one day, and it did. i'll try it on for size for a bit, it may change again - but i think i like it a lot.
