Seattle Chicken Tour
today i learned that in the city of seattle, one can own up to three chickens. apparently, last weekend was the big "chicken tour" where you could go visit various chickens living in the city. my friend is getting two chickens soon, Fran & Lola. there is apparently a whole chicken-owner subculture i was completely blind to...perhaps that was for the best.

Overheard at work today....
"i have to deal with this guy whose name is Dick. At first, I had trouble writing emails to him and writing the name,"Dick," but, as it turns out, he is a dick, so now i quite enjoy it."

green for growth?
someone reminded me of this little saying today. so, new green template. not sure if i like it yet, but i am inept at programming and wanted one that allowed me to post links. yeah, i know, i didn't post many, but i will. just wanted to get the party started.
saw a great shot today, but forgot to take the photo...hence, no photo. it's in my mind instead.

memories
incidentally though somewhat related, i got my first tattoo on this day in 1994. i remember this because it's my mom's birthday today. the guy who did my tattoo was named hubba hubba, i went alone and hadn't decided what i wanted a tattoo of, merely that i wanted a tattoo. total 23-year-old behavior i suppose. fortunately i picked well, as i still love it, despite it being not very well thought out at the time, and having had minor regret for a few weeks afterward.

"you're a strange and incredible jackass sometimes..."
someone said this to me today. i think it may have come from a place of love. is that possible?

road to nowhere
i forgot how much i like this song by talking heads. other favorites that come to mind are 'wild wild life,' 'and she was,' and 'once in a lifetime.' i went through a phase where i was mildly addicted to them in college.
Well we know where we’re goin’
But we don’t know where we’ve been
And we know what we’re knowin’
But we can’t say what we’ve seen
And we’re not little children
And we know what we want
And the future is certain
Give us time to work it out....

But we don’t know where we’ve been
And we know what we’re knowin’
But we can’t say what we’ve seen

And the future is certain

three 45's
when i turned 12 in 1983 i got a really cool stereo for my birthday. it had a cassette player that came out like a little drawer, and did the "soft eject" thing rather than the "pop" that most cassette players did at the time. it had a turntable and radio too, of course. while i'd had a crappy tape player, an alarm clock radio and plastic record player, it wasn't all like having one 'nice' unit like this - and, it was MINE - something rare in a big family. no one was allowed to touch it unless i said so.
anyhow, when i went with my mom to pick it out, i got to pick out three 45's too - they were three for $5 - and it was painful to only pick three. today i heard "Major Tom (coming home)" by Peter Schilling on the radio, which was one of the three 45's, along with "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel, and "All Night Long" by Lionel Richie. while the latter two don't excite me today (though both are fine songs, i suppose), "Major Tom" is still one i love to happen upon on the radio. all three were played ad nauseam, since they were all i had until i saved up another $5...which took a while.
oh, i got a black light too that year, which i hung above my bed and put glow-in-the-dark feet stickers on it so they glowed at night after i turned it off...but that is a whole other story.
