it's so strangely warm and nice out these days. very odd, but very enjoyable.

it was gorgeous out today

here's a little found object i saw on my walk up fremont ave after work. i actually don't see any spelling errors to speak of...hmm.

hummus

i get asked for my hummus recipe periodically and well, i think lately i've felt my blog could have some other things besides photos worked in. so here it is - my recipe for high-flavor, whippy, smooth hummus (so if you're a low-flavor, chunky hummus lover, pass on this version). jenn's famous hummus...actually,it is published...but you get it for free:

4 Tbsp. Olive Oil
2 Tbsp. Roasted Tahini
4 Tbsp. Lemon Juice
4 Garlic Cloves
2 tsp. Salt
2 – 12oz. cans Garbonzo Beans, rinsed
¼ - ½ C. Water

Combine first 5 ingredients in food processor and blend into smooth paste. Add garbonzo beans and ¼ cup water. Process until mixture has a consistent texture; add additional water until smooth. Allow mixture to process for 2 full minutes (this is a key step!). Let sit 4 hours; adjust taste by mixing in additional lemon juice or salt as needed.

so lately my blog has been a bit more about what i'm up to as opposed to true attempts at good photos. i imagine i'll get back to that - but i've been a bit distracted lately...anyhow, in the past day or two, someone stole my Jizo. he was my favorite piece of yard art, and i'm totally bummed. above, you can see him enduring his first snow storm. below, you see his blank spot with a small indentation in the ground...also taken were four engraved stones that we used at our wedding to hold our marriage certificate down as we signed it. this made us both sad. what's strange is that my budda and funky concrete moon were left in place. picky thiefs. i'll replace the jizo soon...the stones, well, we'll just have to let those go. what's funny is, as mad as i should be, i'm not...i think life has been a little overwhelming lately, and i suppose it's all relative.

tonight we went to the super china buffet up north - quite a selection, and so busy (as evidenced by this photo) that the food turnover was constant. it was an interesting experience...there were some WAY high-piled plates. had fun though. my fave was the japanese eggplant in garlic sauce, yum.

about to pull the best shot in seattle...

those of you who live in or around Fremont know of the Lighthouse - the best damn coffee in our fair city (or possibly there is one equal to it out there, Vivace on Capitol Hill). felt good enough today to wander over for an afternoon cuppa' joe. nice day for it too. 63 degrees on feb. 24 - global warming at work - but honestly, on a day like today, i can't hardly complain about it. look at those late afternoon beams of sunshine!

no post wednesday

due to my crappy cold, i will not be posting today. i did take two photos, however, they were as crappy as my cold. tune in tomorrow. hopefully, i'll be able to breathe again. xoxo.

Impromtu trek to White Rock, B.C.

Saturday morning, a friend of Michelle's called and offered us two free nights at a B&B in White Rock B.C. - her husband was really sick so they were unable to go, but the B&B was non-refundable. It is only 10 minutes past the U.S. border and is more or less a little seaside town. We took them up on their generous offer and enjoyed two nights at Bravo Morelli B&B here along with a gorgeous Sunday walking Crescent Beach and Blackie Spit. Below are a few photos of the day!


This was the rocky part of the beach....


There were loads of crows, seagulls and rock doves...we saw a nice blackbird at one point though.

This is actually a sunset at the Peach Arch, where you cross into Canada from the U.S. - we waited about an hour to get across...the sunset was the only fun part...

Barley turns 7

Michelle started her day at 5:30 a.m., singing happy birthday to Barley in the car on the way to the gym. At lunch, I picked up a "pupcake" for his birthday and we celebrated after dinner. As you can see, a fun time was had by both mother & son.

Barley and I had a little walk around Greenlake this a.m. - it was cold but nice out.

bagel day

so every friday i allow myself the indulgence of breakfast out - i stop off at roxy's deli and order my usual poppyseed-toasted-with-veggie-creamcheese, pay my $2.13 and hope i get a booth (most always do). then i typically pop open my laptop and do work for an hour or two (offline) before going to real work. it's a nice little ritual that makes me happy.
