The Baltic Room
Awards go out to:
Anhl: Way to spend 2+ hours on the dancefloor! I knew it was in there, the love of just pounding out energy on the dancefloor - and you are a good little dancer too! 50 points. Bonus: No need to go to the gym today - cardio is complete, since the bulk of the 2 hours happened after midnight, it counts as your Sunday workout!
Polly/Vickie/Anhl: 25 points each for leaving me alone on the dancefloor with the cute blonde. And bonus points go to the dj, for playing a song at that moment that she loved and 'just couldn't dance to alone..." lucky me - both in that moment and for the rest of the time on the dancefloor!!!
Polly: 75 points for creating a situation whereby I got the aforementioned blonde's phone number with ease. Though, I really had a plan to accomplish this on my own... ;)
Kelly: 50 points for coming out with us! Sorry you just weren't feelin' it...

The French Laundry, coming up in July!
The French Laundry, a famous, amazing restaurant, was wise enough :) to pick up on Wednesday when I called to secure a reservation on behalf of my dear friend Anhl. You have to call two months to the day of when you want to go, and then pray when they do pick up, that there is still a table of any sort, much less a desirable time, etc. So it went like this:
10:00 - Anhl IM's: Jenn, dial this number, help me try to get in at the French Laundry
10:00 - 10:06 - Dialing like a mo'fo
10:06: Music to my ears.... "Thank you for calling the French Laundry..."
10:06 - 10:20: Holding
10:20: It start ringing! Hallejuleh!
10:22: Still ringing. Panicking. Am I in a dead queue? Are they full, and now they let us sit here, ringing, in limbo? No. I'm too close! NO!
10:23: "Hello, how may I help you?" "Table for 2 please, on July 24th?" "5:30 or 9:00 are available..."
10:26: Reservation confirmation lands in my email. July 24th, a Monday, at 5:30 p.m.
I told Anhl that I got a life-lesson reminder:
Wanting things too much often pushes them away, and then it never happens. When you relax, go with the flow and just let things unfold naturally, often you get what you want - because your happiness wasn't depending on it.
For me it was a whim to dial and simply lucky I was at my desk, for her, it was a mad desire! Being a little superstitious, I suggested this is why I got through and she did not. We agreed we both need to be more aware of this concept in general. In the meantime, we'll both just salivate thinking of the upcoming event!

Mogwai -Amazing show! Give a listen here...
I haven't been so blown away by a show in ages. My god. Here are some links, if you don't know them, my advice is to take a moment and get to...
Mogwai's Myspace Page: http://www.myspace.com/mogwai . You will hear "Acid Food" right as it pops up, which is an incredible song. Listen to the whole song for the full effect. You can also read about them, and hear their entire live DC show for FREE on NPR at: here while it cannot compare to seeing them live, it is incredible to listen to. Finally, my concert-going companion wrote a seriously intense review of the show on his group-blog, located here - and he captured it well!

how human we all are.
interesting to me is the fact that most of us feel most of these at some point on any given day.
today i can say i hit all seven - and today was actually quite a nice day...
i think we all do our best, and we're all just human.
Pride: I looked super cute today, and said so...
Envy: I wished for something I can't have and shouldn't want.
Gluttony: I took one extra bite at dinner when I was already full. Oh, and I let myself sleep an extra 17 minutes.
Lust: This is on most all single people's mind at some point in the day, mine included.
Anger: I got annoyed with someone for a few minutes...it passed though.
Greed: I thought about winning the lottery, and how easy life would be...
Sloth: In some ways, I didn't take very good care of myself today. Oh, and I didn't get all my chores done on schedule.
