1st birthdays...

today i went to my friend Barry's son's 1-year birthday party. it's funny because the kid has no clue what's going on, and really, it's all about celebrating the parents' survival of the first year...and the fact that the baby too survived unharmed. i couldn't decide between a baby gift for the kid, or champagne for his parents.

i heard this song tonight on the radio after taking a friend to the airport. i was instantly in 5th grade, mrs. endean's class, and jimmy graham was giving me shit about it. let me tell you, there was never a time i hated being called jenny more than when this song plagued me - and it seemed to stay popular for a long time...and at that age, the teasing was relentless. it's probably the worst on-hit-wonder ever, in my book.

i'm always sad when i cover up the last part of paint in a room - it's kind of like saying goodbye to a segment of life, changing it up for something new - hopefully for the good.

painting memories

i got this jane's addiction shirt in 1991 at the first lollapolloza which i saw in cleveland, oh. at some point in the mid-90s, it became my painting shirt, along with these white shorts. they're kind of nostalgic to me now - i can look at the myriad of colors on them and remember where that color was, in which dwelling, who i was painting with, etc. they're nice memories...

this is an excerpt from an old letter i found from someone i once was in love with.

she had just started therapy in her 30th year, when, in astrology-speak, one's "saturn returns."

i liked the imagery of the last sentence. i remember that time for me, a few years after getting this letter, and indeed she summed it up beautifully.

but, now almost 34, i know better. this happens outside of the 30th year, too.

gardening at night

it occurs to me that this is a title to an REM song; however, i really just wanted to make the point that i love gardening at night. that said, i like the song too. it's actually on the first CD i ever purchased, Eponymous.
